Many of your contributors seemingly deem anyone on the “far right” an old tin can on a dirt road — they just love to kick them around. Witness Hakeem Jefferson’s diatribe on Rep. Michele Bachmann — he attempts to paint her an ignorant fool, citing snippets about the Founding Fathers, Japanese internment camps and women voting. Presuming Mr. Jefferson is alarmed that anyone in a powerful position is so uninformed about American history (Rep. Bachmann is 1/435 of the House of Representatives), he should rest easily tonight knowing our government is in the hands of such historical intelligentsia as President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. After all, no other U.S. president has had the opportunity to visit more than 50 states. Mr. Obama once proudly proclaimed he had visited 57 of the states, with only one left to go. On the CBS evening news, Mr. Biden reminded all Americans that following the stock market collapse in 1929, FDR immediately went on television to calm the nation’s fears. At least he was close — only television, one president and four years off. If Mr. Jefferson can find the time, I would like to learn more about those eight states.
