Here’s a health, and a ring: USC Ring Ceremony

300 students receive recognition of achievement

The My Carolina Alumni Association presented juniors and seniors with their official University of South Carolina rings at the ring ceremony Tuesday afternoon.

The rings, reserved by students during USC Ring Week this past September, were presented by President Harris Pastides.

“Hundreds of students get their rings every year and it really is a special network of alums that share this unique experience,” said Garnet Circle Vice President of Special Programs Molly Stanton, a fourth-year marketing student.

A relatively new tradition, the ring ceremony was first held in 1999, and is held in the fall and the spring each year.

“The first ceremony was originally held in the Rutledge Chapel and it has been held on the Horseshoe ever since,” said fourth-year public relations student Nicki Priester, who is the president of My Carolina’s Garnet Circle Alumni Council.

“However, because of the rain, we had to move the ceremony indoors this semester.”

The event, organized by My Carolina and Garnet Circle, preseted rings to over 300 of the 502 students who ordered them.
