Whitney Houston passes on eve of Grammy awards

Singer, actress dies at 48

The world lost a legendary voice on Feb. 11. Award-winning singer and actress Whitney Houston passed away Saturday at age 48. The cause of her death is currently unknown.

Houston, who began her career in the early '80s, was best known for chart-topping songs like the dance pop hit "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" and "I Will Always Love You," the ballad which many critics describe as her signature song. Houston won six Grammy awards during her career.

The singer also gained recognition for her roles in "The Bodyguard," "Waiting to Exhale" and "The Preacher's Wife."

Houston married R&B singer Bobby Brown in 1992 and the couple had a daughter, Bobbi Kristina, in 1993. Houston and Brown's rocky relationship was chronicled in the reality television series "Being Bobby Brown" and they divorced in 2007.

Sunday night's Grammy awards ceremony included a musical tribute to the late singer, including a performance by Jennifer Hudson.
