Scott Horn’s direct personal attack on evangelical Christianity is just another example of the perverse bias exemplified nearly every day by The Daily Gamecock. As an evangelical Christian, I could not be more offended by the slant of the article and the half-truths found therein.
First of all, Horn’s comparison of women to cows or pigs shows his lack of understanding of both the bill and basic biology. HB 954, which Horn did not read, has no wording that forces women to carry a dead child. “Abortion” in itself is the act of ending a pregnancy. If the child is dead, then there no longer exists a pregnancy. Labor generally is induced, or the dead body is removed by caesarian section.
Second, Horn criticizes Gov. Rick Perry for being unashamed of his Christian faith and signing an ultrasound bill. How in the world is Perry wrong to be proud of his faith, as he shares the same beliefs with nearly three-quarters of Americans who claim Christianity? Also, regarding the ultrasound bill, anyone who has a hernia removed gets an ultrasound. To say that an ultrasound “endangers” the life of a woman is ridiculous.
Third, Rep. Lance Kinzer’s bill allows doctors to tell women abortion increases a patient’s risk of cancer. This “lie,” as Horn calls it, is a lie in his opinion only, as it has support of scientists across America.
There has never in history been an evangelical theocracy. The only country ever to be founded by predominately evangelical Christians is the United States of America, which has been the best and freest country in world history. To compare a Christian belief against killing an unborn child to polygamy, wife-beating, forced rape and pedophilia (child spouses) — which are all practiced in Shariah-abiding, extremist countries — is lunacy and propaganda which should not be published.
