This editorial is part of this year's April Fool's edition. It is not real.
Seriously, Daily Gamecock? Printing an April Fool’s edition on April 2? Print journalism is already dying, guys. Let it go out with some dignity, at least.
This is just another example of the gross ineptness and professional negligence this publication has shown this year. How can these so-called editors take themselves seriously? Libelous elitists sitting high and mighty in their offices, they can’t even be bothered to glance at a calendar.
This latest mistake should be the last straw. It is not so much the inaccuracy that is infuriating; that is only a reminder of the issues upon issues of libelous news coverage that is slanted to follow whatever campaign or crusade the editors are currently engaged in. The rampages against Fraternity and Sorority Life, the USC administration, student ticketing, Russell House, 3-D films, Carolina Alert and campus parking have to end. These organizations are, we can all agree, doing the very best they can. They, and indeed the very April Fools’ holiday, don’t deserve the libel to which they have been subjected. In fact, due to all the success, hard work and positive contributions to the university that they foster, they should be held above all critique.
As for their cleverness, this faux April Fool’s issue proves that they have it in poor supply — if any at all. We fully expected a few dozen jokes about the $14,000 Thomas Cooper Library fountain they constantly libel with their libelous libel, but it seems they couldn’t even deliver in that regard.
The laziness cannot continue. Editors, just because you have a well-paid, low-work job doesn’t mean you know everything about everything. Quit allowing taste and common sense take vacations.
