Armed robbery at corner of Sumter, Devine streets fourth near USC since February

The incident, which occurred near the David R. Coker Life Sciences Building and Longstreet Theatre, is the fourth on or near USC's campus since late February.

According to a crime alert posted to USC's Division of Law Enforcement and Safety website and emailed to students, the victim was walking down Sumter Street when he was approached by two suspects in a silver Nissan Altima. The alert described the suspects as a black male with a large build and long hair and a black female. The female suspect was driving, while the male suspect called the victim over to the car. He grabbed the victim from the inside of the vehicle, holding something in his hand that may have been a weapon, and took the victim's money. They then fled south on Sumter Street.

Capt. Eric Grabski from USC Division of Law Enforcement and Safety said the incident was a city of Columbia case. Efforts to reach representatives for Columbia Police Department were unreturned Wednesday evening.

Unlike previous alerts for similar incidences on or near campus, the alert was not sent via text message to students, but it was tweeted from the Carolina Alert Twitter account and emailed at approximately 7:30 p.m.

According to the alert, anyone with information about the robbery can submit tips via text or online by visiting www.midlandscrimestoppers.com.
