SG members look forward to next semester's projects
Reindeer ears, elf hats and bright sweaters embroidered with Christmas trees and likenesses of Santa Claus dotted the Student Senate chambers as members of Student Government dressed with holiday spirit at their last meeting before winter break Wednesday night.
Plans for next semester and beyond were the main topic of conversation.
Safety and Transportation Committee Chairman Ryan Bailey discussed the big picture for many of his committee’s initiatives while wearing a particularly festive reindeer-Santa hat combination.
Progress has been made on a campuswide bike share program, but no specific details were shared. He also said that there would be three new bicycle racks on campus next semester and that the Safety and Transportation Committee was considering developing an app for Carolina Cab.
Bailey, a second-year political science student, also proposed a safe walk program from Thomas Cooper Library to residence halls.
“We could have a guy and a girl volunteer each weeknight to help students get home after studying at night,” he said. “Students can be concerned about getting home safely, especially in the wake of several Carolina Alerts.”
Student Body Treasurer Coy Gibson detailed a redistribution fund for unused money allocated to student organizations. He said Jan. 31 is the deadline for submission of receipts and that the unused money would be given to organizations “on a rolling basis.”
