White's banner stolen

SG treasurer candidate awaits police action

Student Government treasurer candidate Brandon White’s campaign banner was stolen from its post on Greene Street Friday night, according to the candidate.

White said he discovered it was missing and noticed that all four corners of the banner were still attached to the ropes, which were “tied pretty tight,” but the banner itself appeared to have been cut with scissors from the wall from which it hung.

He filed a police report with USC’s Division of Law Enforcement and Safety Saturday morning, but he hasn’t gotten any leads so far.

“They told me that there are security cameras facing the area, so when they review the tapes, they may be able to track the thief around campus,” White said.

White was in good spirits about the incident and said he did not think one of his opponents had taken the banner.

“Hopefully it’s some kid who has it hanging up in his dorm, reminding him to vote for me on Tuesday and Wednesday on VIP,” White said. “I’d happily pose for a photo in exchange for the banner back.”
The original banner set White back about $212, but he said a Columbia Kinko’s offered him a replacement for half of the original price. He also said he has already spoken to the business about a partnership with Student Government as part of his campaign platform.

Efforts to reach the Division of Law Enforcement and Safety Monday evening were unsuccessful.
