In Our Opinion: SG's proposal essential addition to USC services

It’s no secret that USC’s housing conditions aren’t ideal, as most students are eventually forced to live off campus due to lack of accommodations on campus. On the tail end of the great migration are landlords of varying quality, from hospitable to downright malevolent.

That’s where SG’s new proposal comes in handy.
Rate My Landlord is a service SG hopes to roll out soon that’s aimed at alleviating the stress in searching for off–campus living.
The service will provide a database, presumably online, of student survey results so that future tenants can weed out the bad landlords from the good.

Better yet, the service is more than just a pipe dream of SG’s; they’re actually making solid headway. They’ve already partnered with the existent off–campus living services and Student Legal Services Office to empower student tenants in any way they can. Furthermore, a final draft of the survey has already been completed and will be distributed to those already living in the popular areas around campus. The sooner the information can be spread, the better, so we’re happy to hear the ball’s already rolling.

Nowadays, getting a good landlord is a crapshoot. SG was smart to attempt to eliminate chance from the equation. In this respect, Rate My Landlord is just what we need. We’ve all used a professor rating website to help secure an easy A anywhere we can, so why not apply the same principle to finding off–campus living?

We’re certain that Rate My Landlord will be an excellent addition to the initiatives SG is working on. Hopefully they’ll get it done in time for the next housing go-round.
