Planned power outages to affect most of campus

The Pendleton Street electrical substation will be upgraded Thursdays, resulting in two short planned power outages to the Columbia campus, according to USC public relations.

The first outage was planned for Thursday morning between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and the second will occur around 4 p.m.

Much of campus had limited cold water during the upgrade, including Capstone, the Coliseum, Gambrell, McBryde, Patterson, Russell House, Strom Thurmond Wellness Center and the Thomas Cooper Library.

The upgrade to the Pendleton Street substation is meant to "minimize future electrical outages and to more quickly restore service in the even of a circuit failure," according to Jeff Stensland, USC spokesman.
