ONLINE EXCLUSIVE: USC's Indian Cultural Exchange celebrates Holi with color

University of South Carolina’s Indian Cultural Exchange hosted their annual Holi celebration Sunday afternoon on the Strom Thurmond fields.

Students from all cultural backgrounds gathered to celebrate the beginning of spring by throwing dry, colored powders and water at each other and had the opportunity to try Indian food.

“In India, my mom said it was her favorite holiday growing up because it was a way for everyone to come together — old or young, rich or poor, man or woman.” said Priyanka Patel, fourth-year biological sciences student and the president of ICE.

During the Holi celebration in India, the streets are flooded with patrons covered from head to toe in colors to celebrate new beginnings with old and new friends.

Holi has inspired many events held in America, such as the Color Run 5K and paint parties.

Holi is open to anyone in the Carolina community, as well as other various events hosted by ICE in hopes to spread the Indian culture.
