Parks reinstated to SG presidential race

Student Government presidential candidate Michael Parks has been reinstated to the runoff race after the SG Constitutional Council reversed one of the Election Commission decisions against him. The decision followed a hearing held Thursday night.

The Council reversed an assessment of one point against Parks for violation of the university's Solicitation Policy, which is a campaign violation under Section 4-3-20 of the campaign codes. The Council affirmed an assessment of three points for a violation of Section 4-4-10 of the campaign codes, which prohibits election fraud.

Candidates for SG executive positions are allowed a total of 5 points in violations, and the Constitutional Commission's decision to reverse one of the assessments against Parks dropped his point value from 5.5 points to 4.5 points.

Parks will be on the runoff ballot against Trey Byars after claiming one of the top two spots in the five person race held earlier in February. The runoff election was postponed due to Park's hearing, and will be held March 1-2.
