Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has identified the student found dead at the Hub late Thursday as Rachel R. Bandman, of Glen Allen, Virginia. She was 19 years old.
No signs of trauma were found in an autopsy conducted Friday morning. The death was originally ruled "suspicious," but Columbia police clarified that this is procedure for all "unattended deaths." Cause and manner of death are pending until toxicology reports are complete.
According to a release from the coroner's office, Bandman was "found unresponsive" late Thursday by her roommate who then contacted EMS. She was declared dead by EMS when they reached the scene.
The Richland County coroner's office is assisting the Columbia Police Department in their investigation.
