Health advocacy organization to host sixth annual Bee Day

Tell Them, an e-advocacy organization focused on health education and access, will provide training and lobby the state legislature at its seventh annual Bee Day on Wednesday.

S.C. Sen. Katrina Shealy and S.C. Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter will join 200 people and 20 community organizations in petitioning for women's right to affordable and quality healthcare in South Carolina.

Participants will receive advocacy training and be shuttled to the Statehouse for a press conference with Shealy, Cobb-Hunter and Pat Forbis, a local lawyer and women's health promoter. Tell Them advocates will have the opportunity to meet with House legislators, followed by photo opportunities and lunch.

According to their website, Tell Them supports "age-appropriate, medically accurate health education and increased access to high-quality reproductive health counseling and services for the women of South Carolina." In-vitro fertilization, birth control, cervical cancer, sex education and domestic violence are some of their key issues.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning at the Columbia Marriott Capital Ballroom III-IV, with shuttles running to the Statehouse starting at 10:30 a.m.
