Dementia patient goes missing in Newberry

A dementia patient went missing in Newberry County Saturday, The State reports. According to the Newberry County Sheriff's Office, Donnie Richardson often attempts to return to his old home in Lexington.  Authorities are asking for the community's help in finding the missing patient.

Senate President Pro Tem refuses leaving seat

Senate President Pro Tem Hugh Leatherman refuses to leave his Senate seat if Gov. Nikki Haley becomes the UN ambassador, WIS reports. Haley will remain governor for now, but Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster will replace her if she is confirmed by the US Senate for Trump's cabinet.

Newberry newborn placed in DSS

A newborn from Newberry County Memorial Hospital was left to the Department of Social Services last week under jurisdiction of Daniel's Law, or the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act, WIS reports. The African-American male infant was surrendered to DSS the day after he was born and a permanency planning will be held January 25 to allow any person to assert parental rights.
