A USC student was arrested in connection with a series of small fires at the Hub student apartments Tuesday.

Alexander Petrillo was arrested after firefighters reportedly saw him setting one of the fires, The State reports. Petrillo is listed as a student of the Darla Moore School of Business in the university's directory. He has been charged with two counts of arson.

Residents of the Hub report hearing fire alarms during the early morning, from about 2:30 a.m. until 6 a.m. Petrillo allegedly set fire to papers in the building's lobby and on another floor.

Third-year marine science student Savannah Stewart, who lives at the Hub, was surprised by the late night alarm.

"We didn't know it was a real fire," she said.
