On Sept. 20, 2025, a group of people gathered on the horseshoe to compete in USC's Performative Male Contest. Twenty-two contestants put forward their best foot with their Labubus, tote bags and matcha, despite the inclement weather. The event was organized by third-year supply chain operations and management student Morgan Thomas, who was inspired by similar events on social media. After rounds of competing, first-year jazz studies major Santi Balagtas was crowned winner of the event.
South Carolina played Georgia State on Friday night in the Eugene E. Stone Stadium. South Carolina had early attempts on goal but was unable to score until the 40th minute when sophomore midfielder Alejandro Velazquez-Lopez scored, giving South Carolina a 1-0 lead. One minute later, Georgia State scored on South Carolina, and the first half ended in a tie. In the 55th minute, South Carolina was able to take the lead again with junior forward Keanan Bader scoring a second goal, but Georgia State tied the game yet again, and the game ended in a 2-2 draw. The match was characterized by South Carolina's aggressive offense and the many fouls issued on both teams. South Carolina looks to play again at home on Sept. 23 against Queens University of Charlotte.
Students and community members gathered on Greene Street and in the Russell House Ballroom on Sept. 15, 2025, for a candlelight vigil hosted by the University of South Carolina’s Turning Point USA chapter. The event honored Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was shot and killed on Sept. 10, with prayers, speeches and moments of silence. Attendees held candles, raised flags and shared reflections in remembrance.
South Carolina fell to unranked Vanderbilt 31-7 on Sept. 13 at Williams-Brice Stadium. South Carolina was able to tie Vanderbilt’s early lead with a touchdown from graduate running back Rahsul Faison, but redshirt sophomore quarterback LaNorris Sellers was soon taken out of the game after a late hit. With graduate athlete Luke Doty taking his place, South Carolina was unable to gain its footing, and Vanderbilt furthered its win by capitalizing on its running offense. Up next, South Carolina will play Missouri at 7 p.m. next week.
The South Carolina women's volleyball team won against the No. 25 North Carolina Tar Heels in a 3-2 match on Sept. 12 in the Carolina Volleyball Center. Errors early in the game allowed the Tar Heels to build a 19-13 lead against South Carolina, and North Carolina ultimately took the first set. South Carolina tied the second match with combined blocks from sophomore right side Elise Marchal and junior middle Ava Leahy. South Carolina had a strong start to the third set and was able to halt a comeback from North Carolina, but North Carolina took the game to the fifth set after capitalizing on South Carolina's attack errors. The game was won in the fifth set by South Carolina as they closed the match 15-13 in a close fashion. Up next, South Carolina will play Wofford on Monday, Sept. 15. The match will begin at 7 p.m. and can be streamed on SEC Network.
After an initial rain delay, the game between the USC Gamecocks and SC State Bulldogs was underway. After a slow offensive start, the Gamecocks triumphed over the Bulldogs 38-10.
The No. 13 South Carolina football team defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies 24-11, winning the Aflac Kickoff Game on Aug. 31, 2025, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Redshirt sophomore quarterback LaNorris Sellers threw for 209 yards and rushed for 62 yards, recording one throwing touchdown and one rushing touchdown. Redshirt sophomore defensive back Vicari Swain scored the remaining touchdown on an 80-yard punt return. Head coach Shane Beamer, an alumnus of Virginia Tech and son of the school's all-time winningest head coach, reminded South Carolina fans that he was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and was a Gamecock fan before his father coached at Virginia Tech during the trophy ceremony.
Thirteen chapters of the University of South Carolina sororities came together to celebrate Bid Day at the Colonial Life Arena on Aug. 17, 2025. This year a reported 2,281 potential new members, or PNMs, were made, bringing a total of 6,830 Panhellenic members and an average chapter size of 525. PNMs received an envelope as an invite to a sorority during Bid Day, the end of the two-week recruitment process. Chapters filled the arena with excitement to welcome in their new members.
Team Garnet took home the trophy at the annual Garnet & Black spring football game on April 18, 2025 at Williams-Brice Stadium, defeating Team Black 10-7. Team Garnet featured key players Nyck Harbor, Oscar Adaway III and Dylan Stewart while Team Black featured LaNorris Sellers, Mazeo Bennett Jr. and Judge Collier. The football team, coming off of a 9-4 season ending in a loss to Illinois in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl, will face Virginia Tech in Atlanta to start their 2025 season.
At the 27th annual Birdcage drag show, headlined by RuPaul veteran Heidi N. Closet, local and statewide drag performers came together to showcase their talent. The event is put on jointly by one of USC's LGBTQIA+ clubs, IRIS and Carolina Productions. This year saw a record-breaking 19 performers take the stage.
Amidst rain and crowds, USC students, faculty and others gathered on Greene Street to see conservative activist and political commentator Charlie Kirk. Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, set up a microphone and invited attendees to debate him on issues such as abortion, immigration and other topics.
The No. 9 South Carolina softball team defeated the No. 20 Ole Miss Rebels 1-0 in its first matchup on Friday. Both teams were held scoreless until the eighth inning where the Gamecocks loaded the bases and scored off of sixth-year outfielder Abigail Knight's walk to win the game. The Gamecocks lost the second game of the series 2-1 despite finding some momentum late in the game. South Carolina won the final game of the series 4-2 to secure the series win. All four runs were scored in the first inning and the Gamecocks relied on skilled pitching from junior pitcher Jori Heard and sixth-year pitcher Sam Gress to keep the Rebels from taking a lead during the game.

The Gamecocks end its season 35-4 as the national runner-up, shooting 34% from the field as a team and 25% on 3-pointers. The South Carolina women's basketball team entered the Final Four with the only three teams in the country to have beaten them during the regular season.
The South Carolina women's basketball team defeated Texas 74-57 on April 4, 2025 in the Final Four of the NCAA tournament, securing its spot in the National Championship game. The Gamecocks have defeated the Longhorns three times this season, with South Carolina currently holding a season record of 35-3. Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks will face the UConn Huskies on April 6 at 3 p.m. EST to defend their National Championship title.
The South Carolina Gamecocks held a team practice, press conference and player interviews in Amalie Arena on the morning of April 3, 2025, ahead of its Final Four matchup against the Texas Longhorns. The Gamecocks will face the Longhorns for the fourth time this season on April 4 at 7 p.m., and the winner will advance to the NCAA Women's National Championship.
USC students, faculty and Columbia residents put together a memorial in honor of third-year business student Nathaniel "Nate" Baker, who was killed in a hit-and-run at the intersection of Assembly and Blossom streets in front of the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center on April 2.
The South Carolina baseball team was defeated by No. 1 Tennessee over the weekend at Founders Park. The Gamecocks lost on Friday night after a series of errors let Tennessee pull ahead 11-7. Saturday showed the Gamecocks a similar fate after playing what seemed like a good game with the offense finding their footing in the fourth inning, but the Volunteers still won with 7-5. South Carolina finished the weekend with yet another loss, this time losing 7-2 after Tennessee's offense couldn't be contained by South Carolina's pitching staff. This makes the second straight series the Gamecocks have been swept in.
The University of South Carolina women's basketball team will advance to the Sweet 16 for the 11th straight time with a 64-53 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers. The Gamecocks and Hoosiers met for the second straight season in the NCAA tournament after a win in the Sweet 16 last season by the Gamecocks. With the win, the Gamecocks have now improved to 18-1 in the past four NCAA tournaments. There were many notable things to take away from the game, some of which included junior forward Chloe Kitts achieving her 10th double-double of the season and senior guard Te-Hina Paopao getting a season-high four blocks. The Gamecocks are set to take on the winner of No. 4 Maryland vs No. 5 Alabama next week in the Sweet 16.
The No. 11 South Carolina softball team defeated Texas Tech 5-2 in the first game of the series on Friday night. South Carolina's defense prevented Texas Tech from having any runs after the fifth inning, allowing South Carolina to remain in the lead. South Carolina beat Texas Tech again on Saturday in a 1-0 game. The only score of the game came from redshirt junior infielder Natalie Heath hit a home run in the third inning, giving South Carolina the win. South Carolina lost to Texas Tech on Sunday 6-5 after struggling to find momentum in the sixth inning. The No. 11 South Carolina softball team is set to play the Clemson Tigers on Tuesday night in Carolina Softball Stadium for the Palmetto Series.
