The Statehouse grounds, which have recently been the site of rallies and protests, saw a very different type of event on Saturday — the Columbia Pokemon Go Walk. From 3 to 9 p.m., clusters of friends and strangers lapped the Statehouse and ventured down Main Street to maximize their monster-catching in the nostalgic augmented reality game "Pokemon Go."

It was Sept. 13, 1963, two days after the University of South Carolina was officially desegregated, and The Gamecock, a former iteration of this publication, begrudgingly delivered the news to the people. On the front page The Gamecock staff produced a vague, half-formed story — no longer than 200 words — to depict what would be one of the most monumental events for the university in history. Without ever having mentioned the words "black," or "desegregation," unnamed writer D.W.B. cryptically concluded the piece with, “It’s all quiet, and that’s the big part of the story.”

Although it has almost been a year since the Emanuel A.M.E. Church shooting, many are still trying to make sense of such a tragic crime. On Saturday, "Hope in Harmony: An Artistic Conversation" will provide a space for artists of all media to present pieces in memory of the lost nine. The event will be held at Tapp's Arts Center and it will feature music, poetry, dance and visual arts. To conclude the event, contributing artists will participate in a moderated panel discussion with an open forum afterwards.

In April, USC was thrust into infamy after a screenshotted Snapchat of a student listing a racial slur as one of the “Reasons why USC WiFi blows” circulated on multiple social media platforms. In response, the university suspended the student and is planning to rework the Carolinian Creed as a contract rather than an ethics-based document. And now, the decision has been made to improve Wi-Fi connection and make it more secure through a number of policy changes and upgrades.
