A panel discussion kicked off the list of events planned for USC to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The commemorative event series continued with a breakfast on Friday at The Zone in Williams Brice Stadium and the MLK Jr. Gospel Fest on Sunday that featured popular local gospel artists.

The Leadership and Service Center hosted a small-group discussion led by Nancy Lublin, founder and CEO of Crisis Text Line on Wednesday afternoon. The discussion, part of the "Momentum: Conversations for a Better World" series, was largely based on questions from the audience and the implications of Crisis Text Line as a nonprofit and human-run organization.

USC students gathered in the Russell House for an election watch party on Tuesday night to see the results of this year's atypical presidential election cycle. The watch party was coordinated by Student Government and other offices on campus including the Carolina Judicial Council.

Tuesday the whole world watched and anticipated the outcome of what has been an unconventional and bizarre election cycle in the United States. Foreign exchange students and a visiting professor from Cuba at USC provide international perspectives on the election and are curious to see who will claim the presidency and at what cost.

South Carolina state party chairs, politicians and professors discussed the importance of voter turnout at a forum about the power of the minority vote on Tuesday night. All student were encouraged to cast their votes, especially in an election as dividing as the current one. The discussion focused on the significance of individual votes, the media's role in campaigns and the importance of collaboration and compromise between political parties.

USC students gathered in the Gressette Room of Harper College on Wednesday night to hear Dr. Kathryn Edwards give what they thought would be a lecture on European beliefs about ghosts, but what turned out to be a lecture on how Edwards ended up teaching at USC by following a path that she never expected to take.

The School of Journalism and Mass Communications held a giveaway Monday in celebration of National Punctuation Day. Students were encouraged to find and bring a published error to the event in order to receive either a SJMC T-shirt or cup.
