One of the most popular topics on a college campus is the legalization of marijuana, which for many has become an integral — albeit usually illegal — part of the college experience. Some supportive participants in these discussions point out that the usage of marijuana does not affect anyone but the user and thus should not be a crime, and others argue that marijuana has health benefits. Detractors express dissatisfaction with the lifestyle associated with marijuana usage, among other concerns.

In the grand scheme of humanity, the belief in a higher being is a uniting and beneficial part of society. Throughout the world, religious groups aid the poor, guide outsiders into community and provide the means to society’s moral compass. Recently, as many have moved away from the tenets of organized religion, religion itself has been accused of being a source of evil and violence. While many unspeakable acts have been committed in the name of religion, the notion that religion has primarily been a danger to society blatantly ignores fact and reason. It is the politicization of religion that has mainly driven the relating violence, not religion itself.

The control of public office in the United States of America has always been monopolized by two political parties. Since the days of John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, forms of what are now the Republican and Democratic parties have been the two organizations from which most presidents have been elected. In the coming months, the nominees of America’s two main parties will be proclaimed, and American voters will be awaiting the national presidential debates, where voters can expect each candidate to spout seemingly opposing platforms that nevertheless lead to the same result: a maintaining of the status quo.

In 2013, it was discovered that the NSA had been collecting Americans’ phone data, violating the rights to privacy guaranteed by the Constitution. The candidate most likely to be the Republican nominee, Donald Trump, has called for less protection for journalists for what he views as libelous speech.

Many say that the ideas of manliness and womanliness are all but disappearing; these skeptics argue that there are no inherent traits either sex should have, and that the idea that there are is archaic and even sexist. What they fail to realize, however, is that these idealized traits can still serve a purpose in modern society and even on campus. In today’s world where gender roles are all but disappearing, how can a man still be a man while still adhering to modern standards of gender equality?

“My name is Vermin Supreme and I am running for President of America.” Vermin Supreme, the boot-as-a-hat-wearing, toothbrush-wielding “friendly fascist,” wants you to “help take back America into the Future.” His plan is quite simple: build a pony-based economy by providing all Americans with free ponies, improving national dental health through a compulsory teeth-brushing law and promising to go back in time to kill Adolf Hitler. He is also the only candidate to have a zombie preparedness plan.

Ever since mankind learned to harness the power of bone and rock, wars have been fought countless amounts of times for an innumerable amount of reasons. Although technology has progressed greatly over the millennia, the core of virtually any fighting force has still remained the same: the male warrior. In recent years, politicians have been breathing down the backs of military leaders to place women in combat roles, despite it being increasingly evident that the vast majority do not meet the same standards as men. Politicians need to see the military as an efficient fighting force meant for national defense, and not as a control group for social experimentation.
