South Carolina trailed 3-1 at the top of the fourth inning Friday against Missouri, with much heat added to the competition by the Tigers. However, freshman Kelsey Oh ended the inning with a double play on the next pitch to stop Missouri in their tracks to help the Gamecocks ultimately secure their 6-3 win.

After suffering a frustrating sweep at the hands of Florida this weekend, the South Carolina softball team was ready to regroup against a struggling Campbell team on Wednesday. But the Camels jumped out to an early lead to upset No. 12 South Carolina 3-2.

It appeared that South Carolina was going to suffer its first home series loss of the year to No. 20 Arkansas, but with two outs in the bottom of the sixth in the series finale, the second of a doubleheader on Sunday, the No. 11 Gamecocks changed that prediction with one swing. Krystan White turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead for the Gamecocks en route to a 6-2 win and another SEC series win.

South Carolina had just one baserunner after three innings against Arkansas Friday night as it looked like pitching would dominate the game. But in the fourth inning, the Gamecocks capitalized on small opportunities to put together just enough to get the 2-1 win.

Gamecock softball head coach Beverly Smith and players Alyssa VanDerveer and Jordyn Augustus met with media Jan. 25 to discuss the 2018 season. The Gamecocks finished the 2017 season 34-25 with a trip to the regional final of the NCAA tournament. The Gamecocks were record setters last season by finishing with their highest ranking in school history and their fifth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance. Overall, Smith and her team are excited to achieve even more than last year.
