Five Points plays around with drinking games

Recently Five Points hosted the “The Five Points Scavenger Hunt.” The event was sponsored by Anheuser-Busch, and participants could sign-up in teams of four or individually. The $30 entry fee provided a “Five Points Scavenger Hunt” T-shirt and a Bud Light glitter-covered koozie.

At precisely 6:30 p.m. at Village Idiot, teams were given a list of participating bars and the specials offered, along with a series of different clues that teams had to figure out and take pictures of as evidence for the judges. Clues consisted of things such as, “Leap frog from one bar to another” and “Do a conga line.”

The event went from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and winners got a trophy assembled of Natural Light cans along with various Bud Light apparel and accessories. Runners-up also were awarded Bud Light accessories.

The event joins traditions like Bingo at Pinch in a category of activities that are made more fun with the added element of discounts and specials at different bars. Pinch complements bingo with five-dollar all-you-can-drink tall boys, and the scavenger hunt made sure to encourage teams to treat the scavenger hunt as a bar crawl and to make sure you had the best possible time with your team.

If you want to experience Five Points in a way astray from the norm, the Scavenger Hunt is a great option. As events like these scatter throughout the Five Points calendar, it’s assumed that Five Points will be seen as both somewhere that you go to for the bars, but also where you go when looking to combine activities with your drinking.

Wine Down Wednesday is a great option if you love shopping, sampling wine and maybe chowing down on a snack or two while you peruse a store. It makes for a great pre-game to Bingo at Pinch, if you are into that sort of thing, and then you can mosey on over to Jake’s for pint night.

While live music is the traditional divertissement to accompany your beverage, Five Points should consider hosting more events such as the Scavenger Hunt. Bar Athletes is a company trying to do more with this by hosting beer pong tournaments at different bars with prizes such as free drinks or a complimentary bar tab.

There is no doubt about it, some college students at USC love to get rowdy and they enjoy doing so at an active pace. Beer pong tournaments, scavenger hunts and bingo games prove that, when there is an event coinciding with the usual amount of time students would already spend in Five Points, they will come in drones. Just look at the packed Pinch crowd on any Wednesday night.

Five Points Scavenger Hunt will happen again next year. If interested in learning more you can visit Budweiser Columbia’s Facebook page.
