Doomsday preparation show to hit fairgrounds

Sporting and selling equipment designed to help one during the apocalypse, an RK Prepper Show will take over the South Carolina State Fairgrounds on Saturday and Sunday, July 30-31.

Called the "Greater South Carolina Survival Expo," the event is coordinated by RK Prepper Shows, a company dedicated to hosting events across the country for doomsday survival enthusiasts. According to its website, the show will feature preparedness gear vendors, and tickets are available for adults and children.

On each day, the show will include two seminars with several different survivalist workshops and equipment shows. Saturday's first segment will be "The Basics of Body Armor." Others include "Colloidal Silver for Emergency Preparedness," "Society Ending Events — The First 180 Days" and "Food Prepping on a Budget."

Saturday's second seminar will feature a different array of segments, including keynote speaker Dr. Joe Alton. Alton is referred to as "Dr. Bones," and his wife Amy is known as "Nurse Amy." They will both be featured at the event. Attendees can "learn how to provide complete wound care," among other first aid essentials.

Sunday will see "Morals of Survival — Facing Scenarios After a Society Ending Event," "Ammo Cans — For More Than Just Ammo" and some of the same features from Saturday.

"There is something for everyone at a prepper expo for the avid outdoorsman, hunting enthusiast, homesteader, vegetable gardener or even people who just want to learn more about renewable energy sources," RK Prepper Shows said on their website.

After the Columbia show, the preppers will make their way to Lawrenceville, Georgia; Kansas City, Missouri; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Pensacola, Florida through the remainder of 2016.

Available at the door on both days, tickets will be $12 for adults and $5 for children.
