Emmanuel Nine mural defaced

A mural in honor of the victims of the Emanuel AME Church shooting at a community center was defaced, WIS reports. The mural, which is located at a community center in Downtown Charleston, was covered with multi-colored grafitti. The community center says the incident took place over the weekend. Artist Tripp Derrick Barnes painted the mural, and it was unveiled in May just before the one-year anniversary of the shooting.

Thousands of dollars in merchandise stolen from Columbia Wal-Mart

New surveillance images have been released of a suspect accused of stealing thousands of dollars in electronics from a Wal-Mart, The State reports. The incident took place in July at the Wal-Mart on Garners Ferry Road, and officials say the suspect got away with $10,000 worth of iPads and other electronics. The Columbia Police Department asks that anyone with information contact Crimestoppers.

Recreation commission agrees to investigation

After months of investigations and multiple lawsuits the Richland County Recreation Commission voted to support the ongoing investigation, WLTX reports. The Commission's Board of Commissioners voted unanimously in favor of the move after a closed door session at a meeting Wednesday. The board, under investigation by the FBI and Richland County Sheriff's Department, is facing four lawsuits and has seen three members suspended or put on leave. The State reports that former Gamecock football standout Marcus Lattimore is interested in taking over the embattled commission.
