Viral video, radio anthems make for fun musical shorts
“Friday” — Rebecca Black
With more than 64 million views, Rebecca Black’s “Friday” is the video everyone loves to hate. The song is horrible, but so catchy you’ll find yourself reluctantly singing and quoting it every Friday for some time to come. The video, however, is “fun, fun, fun, fun.”
“Backseat” — New Boyz feat. The Cataracs and Dev
The timing of the release of the New Boyz video for their latest single “Backseat” is perfect. If Black is still wondering which seat she should take, the New Boyz have her answer. However, they are likely talking about doing something more than “partyin’, partyin’, yeah!” in their backseat. The same guys who told you “You’re a Jerk” have introduced a video that’s full of collaboration. Indie-pop duo The Cataracs and female electro-pop artist Dev are a great addition to the video, adding the same kind of energy found in their video for “Bass Down Low.” The Cataracs and Dev were also featured in Far East Movement’s “Like a G6” — apparently they have a thing for transportation. The video is full of sexy dancing and a classy white four-wheeled 1957 Mercedes Benz.
“On the Floor” — Jennifer Lopez feat. Pitbull
American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez is back in the music scene, debuting the video for her single “On the Floor,” featuring Pitbull, on a recent episode of the show. The video is both sexy and full of energy, the majority of it taking place in a very high scale club packed with dancers who move in sync with the Latina pop star. Lopez keeps her hips and her famous bootylicious backside moving to the beat throughout the video, and if that’s not enough to catch the eye, there is plenty of gold-colored clothing and shiny jewelry to attract attention. Pitbull brings the smooth to the video with his sunglasses and clean cut suit. Jennifer brings the sexy, the wild and the beauty with her costume changes, from a very detailed, rhinestone covered, skin-tight one-piece body suit, to baggy pants and a low-cut tattered top exposing her toned midriff. Together they “kill it on the floor.”
