Hardcore band brings tour to Southeast
Releasing their new record "No Ghost" on April 12, Capsule will stop in on Monday to perform with ...For Science! and Tunguska.
From Miami, Fla., Capsule is a four-person progressive rock band made up of guitarist/vocalist Colin Smith, guitarist Ryan Haft, bassist/vocalist Eric Hernandez and drummer Alex De Renzis.
This band is more than your run-of-the-mill hardcore metal band. Billed as "not just the best post-hardcore band in Florida, they may be one of the best in the entire country" by orlandomusicnews.com, Capsule has the credentials to prove it.
The four childhood friends came together in the summer of 2005 after Hernandez and Smith started collaborating musically, releasing the band's debut CD through Robotic Empire Records in 2008.
In addition to their six-year stretch in the music business, Capsule has worked with a few big-name hardcore groups, most notably thrasher-juggernauts Kylesa. Kylesa has been around since early 2001 and made a name for themselves by refusing to be contained by the limits of genres. Their distinguished reputation has allowed relative newcomer Capsule more respect from the underground hardcore scene.
Capsule has also toured with Torche, another prominent hardcore band. Torche has been around since before 2005 and has toured all over America and Europe.
Because of their connections with Robotic Empire Records, Capsule had the chance to team up with Torche in September of 2007.
Capsule's music features progressive and often prodigious elements. Their music is full of "layered vocal choruses, unsettling blast beat shifts, and seemingly other-worldly melodies wielded through a current of undeniable hooks and dissonance," according to the band's Facebook page.
"We all have different musical tastes to some degree, but we all land on the same page when trying to create something unique," Haft said.
Capsule is releasing their newest record through Rorschach Records, based in Richmond, Va. This record's newest single "Neutralize So Numb" has been featured on Brooklyn Vegan, a prominent music blog that has generated a following through its presence on Sirius XM Radio.
Capsule has toured the country regularly since 2006, performing in almost every state and even traveling to Europe. Despite the wide variety of venues they've played in, the band feels that their brand of music is more effective in an intimate setting.
"A connection to the audience creates a way bigger impact with our music as opposed to big venues, which seem to split the vibe between performers and the crowd," Haft said.
Within the next five years, Capsule "hopes to still be puttin' out killer music that inspires others and traveling around blasting it into ears all over the map."
Capsule will be blasting their music into audience ears tonight at 8 p.m. at New Brookland Tavern. Tickets cost $5 for those over 21, and $8 for underage patrons.
