Vice president contradicts long-held US stance on brutal policy
But in doing so, Biden said he understood the reasons for China's policy, and indicated he was not "second-guessing" the policy itself but simply did not think the policy was sustainable from a financial standpoint. Never mind the gross lack of freedom, choice and sympathy the policy contains or the emotional and physical trauma it has brought to millions of Chinese women.
Before people start defending Biden's "understanding" and apparent approval of China's policy, stop and think about exactly what Biden was condoning.
By making that statement, Biden was essentially saying he is "not second-guessing" mandatory abortions, forced sterilizations, outrageous fines and even jail time for those who dare to have more than one child in a country that is already known for its extreme gender imbalance.
Human rights groups and governments around the world have denounced China's one-child policy. Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, said in a written statement that Biden's comment "crosses the lines of ignorant and wrong."
Biden also suggested that the United States should learn "together" from what China has done in population control to help limit its debt.
The minions in the Obama camp released a statement assuring the public that Biden's words were misconstrued. They insisted that Biden strongly opposes China's one-child policy; hindsight is always 20/20 right?
And while Biden went on to call the policy "unsustainable," he merely commented on the economical implications of enacting such a policy; not mentioning the brutality toward women and suppression of human rights that infests it in the first place.
The real issue here is Biden's moral indifference and lack of concern for the plight of Chinese women who have been forced to have abortions because they have already had a child.
Conservative groups have already criticized Biden for his remark. But this is not a politically divisive issue. This country is dedicated to promoting freedom, and China's one-child policy has always been something the U.S. has firmly condemned. For Biden to tell his Chinese audience that America fully understands the policy and does not second-guess it makes America look weak and inconsistent.
