Letter to the Editor: Column on Troy Davis

There is much more going on with the Troy Davis case than the column “Troy Davis case highlights injustice,” will lead you to believe.

The jury who originally convicted him was made up of seven African-Americans and five whites.

When Officer MacPhail came to the scene he was assisting a homeless vagrant being pistol-whipped by Davis and another man, which is indisputable. Troy Davis was identified as the shooter, when he stepped over his body and shot him one more time.

The injustice lies with the organizations who have turned a murderer into a martyr so that they can push their own special interests and political agendas.

Injustice was being done to the family of Officer MacPhail, while they waited 18 years for Davis’ punishment to be carried out, and had to witness people take to the streets to support the murderer of their father, son and husband.

Injustice is being done, because with the hysteria surrounding this case, people have forgotten the real victim: Officer MacPhail, who was doing his job and ended up risking his life for a defenseless man being threatened by Davis.

The hysteria surrounding this case is no more than a misguided attempt to show America that racism is still prevalent.

I am not arguing whether racism is or is not prevalent, but when the media and liberal organizations such as Amnesty International and the NAACP decide to jump on something, they need to be sure it is credible, or else it is a waste of time and appears to be a frivolous attempt to make something out of nothing.
