Baseball falls at The Citadel

Gamecocks pick up 2nd-straight non-conference loss

The South Carolina baseball team (28-9, 8-7 SEC) picked up its fourth consecutive loss Wednesday night, falling at The Citadel by a final score of 10-8.

In the loss, the Gamecock offense exhibited signs of life after putting up just one run against Charleston Southern. Senior Brison Celek and sophomore DC Arendas each homered on the night, and Celek was one of two South Carolina players to turn in a multiple-hit game. Junior Kyle Martin also registered to hits in the contest and led the team with two RBIs.

Freshman righty Matthew Vogel pitched 2.1 innings after getting the start, allowing three hits and five runs (four earned) in his first loss of the season.

For the Bulldogs, junior Mason Davis did most of the damage against the seven total pitchers that took the mound for South Carolina, turning in a 3-4 day at the plate in which he totaled two RBIs and a home run.

The loss at The Citadel is just South Carolina’s second non-conference loss of the season after falling to Charleston Southern at home just one day earlier.

The Gamecocks will look to stop the bleeding with a three-game set at Auburn over the weekend.
