Murphy matches career-high in final round to lead comeback
The South Carolina men’s golf team spent its weekend at The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Georgia, and by all accounts, it was a successful one.
The No. 12 Gamecocks earned the top prize at the tournament, finishing first after turning in a 12-under performance in Sunday’s final round.
Three South Carolina golfers finished the tournament under par, with junior Will Starke, senior Will Murphy and junior Matt NeSmith registered scores of 209 (-7), 211(-5) and 214 (-2), respectively.
The Gamecocks’ title at the Carpet Capital Collegiate is their first in 24 appearances at the tournament, and the victory comes against a stacked field that featured No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 9 LSU, No. 20 Auburn and in-state rival Clemson.
