Volleyball looks to end skid at Tennessee

South Carolina’s volleyball team will travel to Tennessee Wednesday night looking to pick up its first win of November, and trying to erase a five-game skid.

After taking three of their first four conference matchups, the Gamecocks have dropped nine of their last 11 conference decisions, including a multitude of five-set matches.

In the team’s last three matches, South Carolina (15-12, 5-9 SEC) has taken the fourth set, forcing a decisive fifth set, but have come up short each time.

Tennessee (8-21, 1-14 SEC) sits at the bottom of the SEC standings, clutching to a 3-0 victory over Ole Miss, which remains the team’s only conference victory. South Carolina lost to a 3-0 and won 3-2 in its two matches against Ole Miss earlier this season.

Including last season, the Gamecocks have not won a game past Oct. 30. They are 0-13 during that span, with eight of those losses coming a year ago.

After Tennessee, South Carolina will play three more regular season matches, including the final home game on Nov. 29.

Junior middle blocker Darian Dozier and senior libero Mikaela Christiaansen each rank third in the SEC in blocks and digs, respectively. Dozier averages 1.24 blocks per set, while Christiaansen logs 4.37 digs every set.  As a team, South Carolina is the overall SEC leader in blocks, averaging 2.44 per set.
