Man found dead, fits description of missing USC student

A man has been found dead that fits the description of the missing USC student Sam Laundon, according to a press release from the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

The man was found in a shrubbery by firefighters around 5 p.m. Sunday in the Vulcan Materials Company quarry. An autopsy will be conducted by the Richland County Coroner's Office to confirm the identity and cause of death.

“This is not the outcome we were hoping for,” said Sheriff Leon Lott. “I’m sorry it ended this way. We are praying for him and his family.”

Update on Oct. 11 at 10:30 p.m.: The previous news release from the RCSD incorrectly stated the name of the quarry. The body was found in Vulcan Materials Company quarry.
