South Carolina baseball won both its midweek games this week, taking down Wofford 8-2 Tuesday and Gardner-Webb 12-2 Wednesday.
After a slow weekend offensively to open the 2026 season, the Gamecocks have seemed to have found the bats in the first midweek contests of the season, combining for 27 hits over the two days.
South Carolina offense pushes past Wofford
South Carolina baseball earned its first midweek win of the 2026 season with an 8-2 win over Wofford at Fifth Third Park in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Tuesday evening. After the offense had a slow start over Opening Weekend, the Gamecocks had six different players with at least one hit and one RBI on the evening.
Sophomore right-hander Connor Chicoli made his first start for South Carolina against Wofford and gave the Gamecocks five solid innings of work. Chicoli had four strikeouts and no walks while only allowing one earned run in the first inning.
The Terriers took an early 1-0 lead in the game following a leadoff home run from sophomore third baseman Cade Collins.
The Gamecocks responded in the third inning with redshirt junior second baseman Jack Reynolds reaching on an error by the shortstop. Junior designated hitter Reese Moore singled to right field to score Reynolds and tied the game 1-1 after three innings.
South Carolina continued to reach in the fourth inning after hits from junior outfielder Aaron Jamison and sophomore shortstop KJ Scobey. RBI singles from Reynolds and junior outfielder Tyler Bak helped give the Gamecocks a 3-1 advantage in the fourth.
The Gamecocks continued to capitalize on Wofford errors in the seventh inning after junior third baseman Dawson Harman was hit by a pitch. Moore reached on an error, and fifth-year catcher Talmadge LeCroy singled to load the bases.
The Gamecocks added to the lead in the seventh inning after a sacrifice fly from Jamison and an RBI bunt single from Scobey, which led to a 5-1 lead.
Wofford threatened the four-run lead in the bottom of the eighth after the first two Terrier batters reached base. Wofford only managed to score one run off a groundout to first base, going down 5-2 with one inning to go.
The bats continued to shine in the ninth inning for the Gamecocks with LeCroy and Scobey both blasting home runs to secure South Carolina’s 8-2 win over Wofford.
Gamecock bats stay hot against Gardner-Webb
Picking up their second straight win, the Gamecocks improved to 4-1, defeating Gardner-Webb 12-2 in eight innings Wednesday at Founders Park.
In the first inning, the Gamecocks got a two-out rally going off the heels of back-to-back singles by Moore and LeCroy. While the runner in scoring position did not garner a run, the early indication of offense is exactly what head coach Paul Mainieri was looking for.
Junior pitcher Bradley Hodges' Gamecock debut ended early after he loaded the bases, hitting junior infielder Allan Camarillo before walking the next two batters. The Virginia transfer made it 2.2 innings before being relieved by sophomore right-hander Zach Russell.
Russell got out of the frame, facing just one batter, but surrendered two runs on a single that made it past third base. The inning ended, however, in a run down at third base where Parker caught an overly eager base runner in redshirt senior Kelvin Agosto.
Responding to the 2-0 deficit, the Gamecocks answered in the bottom of the third with an RBI single coming from LeCroy’s second hit of the game, before leaving the bases loaded later in the inning, still trailing by a run.
After getting out of the jam, Gardner-Webb pitcher Colby Putnam silenced the home fans. However, staying in for the bottom of the fourth, the Gamecocks found success against the right-handed freshman after a leadoff triple from freshman Will Craddock led to the tying run. That was followed by a solo home run to right field from Bak for the first lead of the evening.
The offense continued to produce consistently, adding three runs in the fifth, driven in by a double off the bat of junior infielder Patrick Evans and a single from Craddock. Craddock later scored on a sacrifice fly from Moore that gave the Gamecocks a 6-2 lead.
Adding insurance, the Gamecocks scored four runs in the sixth as a part of a two-out rally that stretched the lead to 10-2. Evans scored on a wild pitch before Craddock scored on a passed ball. Scobey continued his hot start to the season as well, driving in two with a double.
Ending the game in the eighth, fifth-year infielder Logan Sutter belted a two-run home run, making the lead 10 runs and giving the Gamecocks their first mercy rule of 2026.
Building in the early season, the Gamecocks had their highest offensive output with eight extra base hits to complement scoring 12 unanswered runs.
