The University of South Carolina celebrated its 60th anniversary of desegregation with the groundbreaking for a new monument on Sept. 11, 2023. The monument will stand outside of McKissick Museum and honor Henrie Monteith Treadwell, Robert G. Anderson and James L. Solomon Jr., the first three Black students to enroll at USC. After the commemoration at McKissick Museum, the College of Arts and Sciences revealed a plaque in memory of James L. Solomon Jr. in LeConte College.

The Tar Heels defeated the Gamecocks 31-17 and now lead the series between the two teams 36-20-4. Redshirt senior quarterback Spencer Rattler was 30-39 with 353 yards in the season opener.

ESPN's College GameDay broadcast came to Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 2, 2023. ESPN's College GameDay broadcast came to Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 2, 2023. Fans of both the South Carolina Gamecocks and the North Carolina Tar Heels filled Romare Bearden Park in anticipation of the game between the two schools, with some arriving as early as 3 a.m ahead of the 9 a.m. show and 7:30 p.m. game.

Carolina Productions held its “Country at Koger” event at the Koger Center on Aug. 27, 2023. The free event for students featured performances from country artists Jordana Bryant, Vincent Mason and Will Cullen. Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused the event to move indoors where each artist performed their hit songs and covers of popular country artists including Taylor Swift, Morgan Wallen and others. Will Cullen performed mashups of popular songs and various genres during his headlining act.

Bid Day marks the end of a four-stage recruitment process that potential new members complete to join a sorority on campus. More than 2,100 potential new members signed up for recruitment this year, marking the highest number in the history of USC sorority life. Potential new members receive an invitation to a sorority during Bid Day, and all of the sororities celebrate with their new pledge classes.

The South Carolina men's soccer team lost its first home game of the season to Gardner-Webb by a 2-0 score and is now 0-1-1 on the season. The Gamecocks totaled three shots on goal to the Bulldogs' six and surrendered one goal in each half. South Carolina will hit the pitch again on Sept. 1 against the Clemson Tigers.

On Aug. 18, 2023, the University of South Carolina officially celebrated the opening of Campus Village. Campus Village is composed of four new dorms on the south side of campus that house over 1,800 students.

South Carolina baseball swept its three-game series against Florida on April 20-22. The Gamecocks run-ruled the Gators 13-3 in seven innings on Thursday and continued to balance offensive firepower with effective pitching, beating the Gators 5-2 on Friday and finishing out the series 7-5 on Saturday.

Gamecock beach volleyball hosted the Palmetto Invitational tournament during "Big Gamecock Weekend" on April 14-16. The team competed against Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, Florida Gulf Coast University and Jacksonville University. The Gamecocks defeated College of Charleston 4-1, Jacksonville 5 -0, Coastal Carolina 3-2 and FGCU 3-2.

PHOTOS: Gamecock beach volleyball's season comes to an end

April 16, 2023

Gamecock beach volleyball hosted the Palmetto Invitational tournament during "Big Gamecock Weekend" on April 14-16. The team competed against Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston, Florida Gulf Coast University and Jacksonville University. The Gamecocks defeated College of Charleston 4-1, Jacksonville 5 -0, Coastal Carolina 3-2 and FGCU 3-2. 

The University of South Carolina Gamecocks and the University of Iowa Hawkeyes competed in one of the two semifinal games at the 2023 Women’s Final Four matchup at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on March 31, 2023. The Gamecocks fought hard to continue its 42-game winning streak but ultimately fell to the Hawkeyes, led by junior guard Caitlin Clark, who scored 41 points.

PHOTOS: Gamecock women’s basketball falls in third consecutive Final Four appearance

The University of South Carolina Gamecocks and the University of Iowa Hawkeyes competed in one of the two semifinal games at the 2023 Women’s Final Four matchup at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on March 31, 2023. The Gamecocks fought hard to continue its 42-game winning streak but ultimately fell to the Hawkeyes, led by junior guard Caitlin Clark, who scored 41 points.  

In 2022, South Carolina took home its first ‘Palmetto Bowl’ trophy since 2013 after the 31-30 upset against Clemson at Memorial Stadium on Nov. 26, 2022. However, the Gamecock-Tiger rivalry goes beyond football. In 2022, South Carolina took home its first ‘Palmetto Bowl’ trophy since 2013 after the 31-30 upset against Clemson at Memorial Stadium on Nov. 26, 2022. However, the Gamecock-Tiger rivalry goes beyond football. In the past year, South Carolina has defeated Clemson across six sports in the Palmetto Series, including both men’s and women’s basketball, football, baseball and men’s tennis. The Tigers, however, were able to beat the Gamecocks in men’s soccer, women’s tennis, volleyball and most recently, softball, while tying 2-2 in women’s soccer. The rivalry continued with a volleyball match between the two teams on April 2, 2023, and a second round of softball on April 11, 2023, both in Columbia.

The 25th annual Birdcage drag show took place on April 12, 2023, in Russell House. The event was interrupted by a fire alarm but resumed after the building was cleared.

Senior pitcher Donnie Gobourne pitched a one-hit shutout and led the Gamecocks to a 3-0 victory on Sunday to wrap up the weekend with an SEC series win.

The Eagles' next show will be at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee, on April 1, 2023.

The tour features it's complete "Hotel California" album along with many of its most popular hits, including its cover of the Steve Young song "Seven Bridges Road," "Desperado" and "Tequila Sunrise." The band has gone through many member changes throughout the years, with drummer and vocalist Don Henley being the last remaining original member on tour. Joining Henley is guitarist Vince Gill, bassist Timothy B. Schmit, guitarist Joe Walsh and guitarist Stueart Smith. The Eagles' next show will be at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee, on April 1, 2023.
