After last year's 3-9 season, South Carolina's stretch of three straight 11-win seasons from 2011-2013 seems like a distant memory. Steve Spurrier has ridden off into the proverbial sunset, and the Gamecocks have certainly experienced a fall from grace. These circumstances left athletic director Ray Tanner with a huge decision to make regarding the direction of the program.

South Carolina senior defensive back Rico McWilliams will leave the program, after returning to practice last week. He had taken a leave of absence for a week of practice to tend to family matters in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, which experienced historic flooding.

When assistant coach Sammy Esposito offered John Gilreath a spot on the South Carolina baseball team, it didn't take long for the then-rising sophomore to make his decision. Gilreath committed that day, making his pledge to the Gamecocks three years ahead of when he'll step on campus.

Fresh off a strong performance in last weekend's Nike Sooner Classic, the South Carolina women's soccer team will return home for its home opener at Stone Stadium against NC State. The Gamecocks went 9-2 in Columbia last season, losing to Vanderbilt in overtime and UNCW in the NCAA Tournament.

The glory days of SEC college football were beautiful for fans of the conference's 12 (and eventually 14) schools, because the conference was undoubtedly superior to all other leagues in the nation. However, those days are no more. The SEC is no longer the best conference in college football.

The South Carolina athletic department released 23 NCAA or SEC violations this week when the Associated Press requested the program's open records. All of these violations took place between August 2015 and July 2016, and nine of them involved the football team.

Will Muschamp reeled in another prized recruit Friday, as the Gamecocks picked up a commitment from four-star defensive end M.J. Webb. Webb took to Twitter to announce the news, posting pictures with some coaches, including Muschamp, who had been recruiting the Georgia native while coaching at Auburn in 2015.

The South Carolina men's golf team made the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season in 2015, and plenty of key pieces from last year's bunch return for the upcoming campaign. However, the team will have to move on from Matt NeSmith, South Carolina's low individual in eight of the 12 tournaments the graduated senior played last season.
