Who doesn't love a good scandal? Especially as members of the media, we live to dig up the dirt. The world of sports has more than its fair share of Hamlets and Achilles, the wonderboy phenoms who eventually fall victim to their tragic vices. We have Deflategate, performance enhancing drug accusations and recruiting violations. There is one scandal we have to turn our back on though, one sick individual who needs a dose of tough love. Lending Cleveland Brown's quarterback Johnny Manziel our attention is only enabling him at this point, not helping him.

South Carolina remained undefeated Sunday after facing the ranked Missouri Tigers. The Tigers and Gamecocks traded blows in a physical battle, but South Carolina dominated the scoreboard in an 83-58 victory.

On Thursday night South Carolina hosted Furman in the
opening round of the NCAA tournament at The Graveyard, their first appearance
since 2011. South Carolina entered the match with a record of 11-7-1. Furman
opposed South Carolina with a record of 8-5-5 but entered with momentum after
winning the 2015 Southern Conference Tournament.

After earning a bid in the NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament, South Carolina is slated to host Furman in the first round Thursday evening. While the Gamecocks narrowly missed earning a bye in the opening round, they will have home-field advantage in this in-state matchup. South Carolina boasts a record of 11-7-1, while Furman sits at 8-5-5. The Paladins are riding a hot streak however, as they were recently crowned champions of the 2015 Southern Conference Tournament.

The politically correct term ‘student-athlete’ will certainly induce eye rolls and scorn from some. There are undoubtedly those of the opinion that the order of those two terms should be flipped, those that only see the on-field achievement of student athletes in major programs.

While most South Carolina students headed home to catch up with friends, the men’s tennis team was busy competing in the SEC Fall Classic hosted by Auburn. Even though the tournament continues through Monday, the weekend was very successful for the Gamecocks.
