As a victim of a bicycle collision last week, I am completely appalled that USC earned a bike-friendly distinction from the League of American Bicyclists. I am an advocate of promoting cycling to and from campus, especially considering the university’s lack of parking spots. However, I have heard of plans to increase bike lanes for four years now and have not seen any improvement.
With Carolina Cup thankfully and mercifully behind us, many USC students can return to the daily grind of the semester.

In Thursday’s edition of the newspaper, a letter to the editor made the argument that the fervent media attention displayed surrounding the Trayvon Martin tragedy is used solely as a means to exploit the racial divide that still plagues this country.

Scott Horn’s direct personal attack on evangelical Christianity is just another example of the perverse bias exemplified nearly every day by The Daily Gamecock. As an evangelical Christian, I could not be more offended by the slant of the article and the half-truths found therein.
On paper, Back to Carolina — a distance education initiative soon to be developed by USC — looks like an inspiring idea. The financial and personal struggles of university life often leave students unable to complete their degrees in the “traditional” time period. USC should be prepared for these students and offer them a way to incorporate their continued pursuit toward a degree into a life made busy by jobs, families and other concerns.
