Haley Guyton isn’t the typical, number-crunching accountant. Peppy and enthusiastic about the work she does, Guyton threatens to break out of the traditional treasurer’s role — expanding it to be people-oriented rather than just numbers-oriented. After deliberating the backgrounds and platforms of three candidates, we have decided she could take USC in a new direction doing just that, which is why we’ve chosen to endorse Haley Guyton as student body treasurer.
The vice president position is the most difficult to gauge. While the VP, like any other candidate, must have innovative ideas and show the motivation to carry out plans, he or she must also show a willingness to compromise, to sometimes take the back seat and work with the president to accomplish shared goals. After carefully weighing all four candidates against these qualifications, we have decided to endorse Ryan Bailey for student body vice president.
Last year, Chase Mizzell impressed us. As the sole vice presidential candidate, he offered clear, concrete ideas, and we speculated it wouldn’t be the last time he came to our offices seeking an endorsement. This year we wholeheartedly throw our support behind Mizzell as student body president. Of the three candidates, he’s the most qualified, he connects with others well and offers the best chance of taking Student Government to a new level.

Through the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, students are able to help those who need it most, especially those in close proximity.

Had the bill passed, we would have gladly supported it and its attempt to eliminate an all-too-familiar “popularity contest” of student elections. The problem we have with the bill: In our current system, this is the least of our legislature’s worries.

Capstone is launching its Capstone Community Internship Program, a program that will help freshman and sophomore Capstone scholars get a head start in the real world. Working in tandem with USC’s Career Center, the program will enable a select pool of Capstone scholars to secure paid internships over the summer, guiding them through preparation and application processes as well.
