Playlist: Hyperpop never died

While it might not be receiving the same mainstream attention as it once has, the eccentric sound of hyperpop is still very much alive today. Reemerging in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, hyperpop has become a TikTok trend that's exposed many to over-the-top synth and intense autotune.

The organization is open to all men of color at the University of South Carolina, and it promotes unity and retention intending to enhance the Black male experience on campus.

USC club aims to build safe space, brotherhood for its members

BOND, a student-led organization at USC, works to create a safe space for Black men to express themselves and talk about their experiences at a predominantly white institution. The organization holds a variety of events to create a brotherly bond between members and enhance their campus experience.


Local artist Thomas Humphries has been creating sculptures out of repurposed items since college. The medium has allowed Humphries to express passion through welding found materials into art, he said. Humphries' work can be found at the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, South Carolina State Fairgrounds, West Columbia Riverwalk and other spaces throughout Columbia.

Public murals, sculptures connect Columbia artists to community

Columbia's streets showcase an abundance of public art. Some are sculptures made out of repurposed material, while others are murals depict the values of that community. The artists behind these creations said the public displays help make art more accessible to the average person, forming a connection between the creator and its community.
