Garcia selected 14th in draft

Senior shortstop Samie Garcia took the field for USC’s softball team Wednesday against Appalachian State for the first time since being selected 14th overall in Sunday’s National Pro Fastpitch Draft.


	Senior Kimberly McCormack said the USC equestrian team has done a good job of adjusting after struggling early in the season.

Equestrian wins SEC championship

In 2012 the SEC recognized equestrian as an official sport. With victories over then–No. 1 Georgia Friday and No. 2 Auburn Saturday, USC captured the inaugural SEC championship.

Men's tennis defeats LSU over weekend

The two far right courts held most of the drama when USC hosted LSU at the Carolina Tennis Center Sunday. Sophomore Kyle Koch was locked in a tiebreaker to decide the second set of his singles match. Next to him, sophomore Thiago Pinheiro’s match was suspended while his opponent argued with the referee.


	USC women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley announced Sunday night she withdrew her name from consideration for the Ohio State head-coaching vacancy.

Staley withdraws name for Ohio State

Within a week of South Carolina’s exit from the NCAA tournament, coach Dawn Staley briefly considered a new job. Ohio State called USC Athletics Director Ray Tanner last Wednesday to ask for permission to speak with Staley, and a representative called her shortly thereafter.


Equestrian heads to SEC Championship

South Carolina will look to claim the inaugural SEC championship as their own this weekend in Auburn, Ala. For a team that was once No. 1 in the country, the Gamecocks have struggled lately, losing two consecutive meets and five in a row on the road.


USC defeats Texas A&M in series opener

Carrying a four-game SEC losing streak into the series opener against Texas A&M, coach Chad Holbrook said Thursday’s contest was not just another game for his South Carolina baseball team, as it looked to get back on a winning track.


Gamecocks’ swimmers prepare for NCAAs

For redshirt junior swimmer Michael Flach, the time for analyzing races is over. As Flach and four teammates prepare to compete at NCAA championships in Indianapolis beginning today, the junior said he hasn’t set goals for times in the events he will swim. Instead, he believes if his training comes together, the times will take care of themselves.


	USC outfielder Graham Saiko may play this weekend after taking batting practice Wednesday. He has a left wrist injury.

Baseball hosts Texas A&M

The USC baseball team has a sign hanging in its clubhouse that reads, “A man knows not his own strength until he has met adversity.” Coach Chad Holbrook told reporters Wednesday that now is the ideal time for his players to read that sign. After being swept by the Razorbacks in a home series last weekend, the Gamecocks will look to bounce back in a three-game series against the Aggies, which begins Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Carolina Stadium.
