Letter to the editor: Jesse Holliday's Letter to the Editor about Pastafarians inaccurate

In his recent Viewpoints article, Jesse Holliday alleged that the Pastafarians at USC “have previously made enormous generalizations by grouping Islamic USC students with radical Islamic terrorists, once even saying that they promote a violent and backward religion.” However, this is completely false. Our organization has never once made so bold a claim. Furthermore, he claims that we “recently spoke out about a table on Greene Street occupied by an Islamic Awareness Group.” As a matter of fact, during the Muslim Student Association’s Islamic Awareness Week, the Pastafarians at USC canceled regular meetings in favor of attending MSA events. We relish every opportunity to learn more about those of other faiths, particularly those to which we are not regularly exposed.

Letter to the editor: Show some respect; stop tearing down our fliers

Pastafarians lose posters to vandals In the interest of promoting understanding and tolerance, the Pastafarians at USC will host an Ask an Atheist panel this Wednesday. We have posted fliers in various buildings to build awareness of the event. You may have seen them around campus: amusing, innocuous and colorful posters depicting two kittens engaged in a lightsaber duel. These are hardly topical images but cute and eye-catching nonetheless. However, over the past week, it has been a constant and expensive struggle to keep these fliers in place. Every day we find that most of our posters have been ripped down and thrown away. This is especially disheartening given their intention of promoting inter-faith understanding and awareness.
