Greenville to host NCAA tournament games

The first two rounds of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament will now be played in Greenville’s Bon Secours Wellness Arena, the NCAA announced today.

Furman University and the Southern Conference were named the official hosts.

The games were originally scheduled to be played in Greensboro, North Carolina. The NCAA had to relocate these games after it banned championship events from North Carolina to show its disapproval of the state’s HB2 law.

The Confederate flag that flew over the state's Capitol had previously barred South Carolina from hosting championship events under the NCAA's discretion. The flag was removed in July of 2015, allowing championship events to return to the Palmetto State.

Six other NCAA championships moved from North Carolina. Their new locations were announced today as well.
