Trying every beer Flying Saucer has to offer in one night just might have you seeing flying saucers, especially since the bar serves over 250 brews. With a selection like this, how could it not be voted the best of Columbia?
General manager Chris Mikel said he doesn’t think Flying Saucer is any better than any other bar per se, but the team just focuses on the right things where beer is concerned.
“We focus on the basics; good service, quality product and consistency in all aspects of the business,” Mikel said. “We also focus on educating the public on good beer.”
Part of that education includes the UFO Club, which challenges people to drink 200 different beers.
“It’s a club that we have here for people who want to expand their palettes,” Mikel said. “Once they drink the 200, they get a $100 bar tab, and we throw them a little party.”
And you’re wrong if you think you’ve tried everything Flying Saucer has to offer. Mikel said they’re adding new brews ever day.
“We constantly bring in new beer and new things from the market,” he said. “We like to keep people guessing. We don’t want to become stale.”
