I am glad someone can finally stand up and say that prayer doesn't necessarily create results. I like to question nearly everything, and I believe the results perceived to come from prayer are not from a higher being but from the person praying. Rarely does someone communicate a serious prayer and then sit back and wait.
I think students at this point realize you can't pray your way into good grades. Not to bash on those who do pray, but I believe if they get results it is either because they pray and then act on those prayers (for example, study), or they just end up getting lucky and need to find a way to explain this luck, and the only conclusion they may come to is a higher being funneling this information into their mind minutes before an exam. I applaud Shipp's column and believe those who are criticizing it are mixing their religious beliefs with logical processes, which never turns out well.
