Letter to the Editor: Fees should go toward classroom repairs, not Five Points cab service

Why is money I pay to the school funding activities related to drinking? I have classes with old carpet, desks and chairs that are falling apart and electronics that function half of the time, yet my fees are going to pay for something that students should pay for themselves: cab rides if they are intoxicated. I pay tuition so I can attend class and get a degree. No one forces anyone to go to Five Points and drink, yet class attendance is mandatory. Now fees that could modernize classrooms are going to assist people in their efforts to consume alcohol.

I wonder if the Office of Substance Abuse Prevention and Education feels that this new initiative makes some of their efforts in vain. Now kids in college, whose education is funded by their parents, can go out drinking and have the university pick up part of the tab. Thanks, USC, in making me less and less proud of this institution every year.
