The Daily Gamecock

Letter to the Editor: Girls can drive just fine, thank you

Columnist offends female readers

As I was reading The Daily Gamecock while waiting for the bus Thursday, I stumbled upon a truly insulting article by Robert Sinners that said girls should improve their driving.

Sinners clearly doesn't have his facts straight, or his head. First of all he happily neglected the fact that statistically more men, especially young men like himself, are in car accidents each year than females. The only explanation I can possibly come up with for this grave miscalculation is that he is as misinformed as he is sexist.

I would also like to address the larger issue here. How? How in the world did such an unabashed misogynist manage to get this dribble published at a major university newspaper? I thought we had entered a new era of acceptance and progress in this country, but clearly this message has not filtered down to the Daily Gamecock staff.

As a female student here at the university I am truly ashamed, not only that my fellow students can be that backwards and condescending but that the newspaper I read every day would allow this to go to press.
