The Daily Gamecock

Game Thread: Georgia-South Carolina

Noon: Get up Carolina, it’s gameday. We’re just about five hours away from kickoff in Athens. Already, there have been some interesting picks for tonight’s game already with ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit hinting at a South Carolina upset a week after correctly predicting the Gamecocks’ loss to Kentucky.

SEC Network analyst Jesse Palmer agreed with Herbstreit.

“Don’t rule the Gamecocks out,” Palmer said.

Sanford Stadium is sold out for the 6 p.m. kick, and 92,000 fans will make Athens very, very loud.

Injury Update:

Obviously, redshirt sophomore Connor Mitch is out. The quarterback spent much of this week battling an infection related to a hip pointer sustained against North Carolina and reaggravated against Kentucky in Week 2.

Starting cornerback Chris Lammons will not travel with the Gamecocks as he battles rib and knee injuries. Fellow sophomore Al Harris Jr. will start in his place.

Random Tidbits

  • Sept. 19, is former Gamecock quarterback Connor Shaw’s 24th birthday.
  • Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush will be in attendance.
  • True freshman quarterback Lorenzo Nunez says that he has gotten nearly fifty percent of the first-team snaps this week. Expect him to play — and throw — this week.
  • Brad Nessler and Todd Blackledge will be in the booth for the game. In my opinion, the two are one of the more underrated broadcast teams in the nation.
