Dambaugh, Schmelzer in contention, but Gamecocks dragging behind

The Gamecock women's golf team completed the second round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at Reunion, Florida in ninth place with a two-day score of 579 (3-over). Despite the team’s overall struggles, junior Katelyn Dambaugh and senior Sarah Schmelzel both sit in the top 10.

Dambaugh (T2) carded a second round 71 (1-under) to move to 8-under for the tournament, two strokes behind leader Robynn Ree, heading into the final round.

Schmelzel currently sits in a tie for seventh place after recording a 3-under 69. Schmelzel is five shots behind Ree at 5-under.

Last season, the Gamecocks won the inaugural ANNIKA Intercollegiate on their way to earning a No. 1 national ranking in the fall. The Gamecocks finished the season ranked sixth nationally and return three players from their primary five this season.

The Gamecocks will have one more round to climb the leaderboard, but are currently 32 shots behind leader University of Southern California.
