Crime Blotter: Oct. 11 to Oct. 17

These briefs do not include every incident from the last week and suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Information could change as investigations continue.

On Oct. 12, an officer on patrol approached an individual out past county-wide curfew on Lucious Road and took him back to his aunt’s house. The individual started to argue with his aunt. He resisted the attempts of the officer to handcuff him, but was eventually placed inside the patrol car. Once in the vehicle, he kicked at the driver’s side window, resulting in damage to the vehicle frame. He was then removed from the patrol car and placed in a transport wagon for detention.

An officer responded to a call on Oct. 15 about an individual asleep at the wheel on Fort Jackson Boulevard at a traffic light. By the time the officer arrived, the vehicle had rolled across the intersection and onto the median. The officer eventually woke the driver by banging on the window and asked for ID. The suspect’s license came back as suspended when the ID was run through the dispatch system . DMV records then showed that this was the third time the suspect had been charged with driving under a suspended license. The suspect was taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

On Oct. 14, an individual entered the Capitol News Stand on Washington Street and proceeded to buy and pay for a beer before stealing a box containing 10 packs of Spearmint chewing gum. The suspect then returned hours later to again buy and pay for a beer before stealing another box of gum. Police were called and the store provided surveillance footage showing the theft.
