Top prospect Seventh Woods chooses Tar Heels

Gamecock basketball target Seventh Woods made his commitment Wednesday morning. Woods, a local prospect from Hammond High School, has been a top target for the Gamecocks and head coach Frank Martin for the better part of three years.

Heading into his Wednesday morning commitment ceremony, the 56th-best player nationally and top in-state prospect was down to Georgetown, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Though most believed Woods would choose the Gamecocks, the point guard ultimately went with the Tar Heels.

Hammond brought all of its students into the dorm for the announcement which was closed to the public but open to the media. Woods was joined by teammate Chavez Goodwin who committed to the College of Charleston.

Wednesday was the first day of the national signing period and Woods, who had mentioned previously that his decision was made, did not wait long to set a commitment date.

Despite missing out on Woods, the Gamecocks have still brought in three four-star prospects in the last 14 months.
